Gilligan
Gilligan Gilligan is the star of the was a show from the 1960's. Gilligan was famous for getting himself into sticky situations and most definitely for unintentionally ruining rescue attempts. Gilligan was played by the late Bob Denver. Gilligan's role on the island was the skippers first mate. On the show, Gilligan was a sweet and innocent young boy from Pennsylvania with an unusually large appetite. Originally he was supposed to be a quick replacement for the skippers first mate who suddenly fell ill and couldn't make it to work. The story was then changed to say Gilligan was an old navy acquaintance of the skipper and had signed on as his first mate from the start. As for Gilligan's age, they never specifically say what his age is, but it is implied that he is still quite young, possibly just out of high school. Throughout the show Gilligan is constantly doing favors for people and taking orders from everyone(mainly the skipper(Jonas Grumby) and Thurstan Howell the third. Although Gilligan constantly messed up the rescue efforts he also managed to save the people trapped on the island with him. Gilligan's Island The creator of the show said, in one of the commentaries on the Gilligan's Island DVDs, that there was no specific island. The show was filmed in a studio and the lagoon was built in a studio lot. The location in the show was 300 miles southeast of the Hawaiian islands approximately 140° longitude, 10° latitude which doesn't actually put it 300 mile off the coast of Hawaii. Gilligan's island was uninhabited until they arrived leaving them plenty of food and adventure. The only life around was Natives from neighboring islands. |
