Moving

Moving

Moving is a big step in anyones life. I currently moved across the country and thought I'd share with you, what went wrong. One of the worst things that can happen when moving isn't a delay or getting lost, it's forgetting something. All other things can be compensated for with little to no cost. When you are moving anywhere, it's important to note what you've packed already. The purpose of noting what you've packed when you move is so that you can be sure you have it and didn't just lose it. Taking notes can also help you with a less common event, something I did... You see, a family member and I own identical cameras, while I didn't pack both cameras I took both the cords so now they can't upload anything to the computer. The unfortunate part is that I have to mail it back at my expense and inconvenience.

Packing to Move
When packing make sure you don't just take what you think you need, take what you use during a day or week. I forgot nail clippers. Keep track of all the small things. I also forgot my James Bond movie. That upset me a little, but I brought clothing and money.

Moving to New Address
When you move to a new address don't just tell all your friends. Although the should know there are more important things and more important people. Change all you magazine subscriptions and go to the post office and let them know(fill out the proper paper work). What ends up happening is if you get any mail at your old address they will forward it to your new address. If you have a credit card or a bank account really, let the bank know you are moving. Identity and credit card theft is a huge problem today, if you make a charge from a location far from your old address the bank is likely to think it's fraud and will probably call your old home. Make sure any old bills that were permanently attached to the house are canceled and all that stay with you are updated.

Arriving
I personally didn't bother to unpack. I want to make sure everything has a place to go and that the place all my stuff goes make sense. For example, drawers normally have clothing, the higher the drawer the more often that item is worn. Now there is the matter of the lowest drawer which may be reserved for seasonal clothing or junk. I'm a guy so it's going to be full of junk. Make sure you already have something to sleep on, some covers, a pillow. You don't necessarily need a mattress, but you certainly don't need a bed frame just yet. If you own one your furniture and you are moving it in, get a moving truck. Make a few measurements first. I left all my old stuff at home because the rest of my family still lives there. If you have a laptop, bring it along, and one more thing, you should try to set up phone and electric services before you get there, otherwise you'll have little to work with.
